Langstone Community Council has received the Audit Wales
reports for the 2022/23, 2023/24 and 2024/25 financial years. These identify
serious governance and financial management failures, with Audit Wales unable
to provide opinions for 2022/23 and 2023/24 and issuing a qualified opinion for
2024/25. The reports are highly critical of the former Clerk’s actions and the
Council’s oversight at that time. However, Audit Wales did not issue a Public
Interest Report, instead setting out concerns and recommendations in a formal
letter, possibly reflecting the change in the Council and Clerk and the relationship
and proactive dialogue with Audit Wales to
restore records and strengthen governance arrangements.
Note that the Council does have an opportunity to review and comment if there are any concerns about findings however the focus will be looking at addressing all recommendations and ensuring that 25/26 is in line with requirements.
